Srinagar, Mar 1: After remaining away from their schools for almost one year now, the students of class 9th to 12th today attended their respective schools across Kashmir amid strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
All the educational institutions-including Government-run as well as those being run privately-have reopened in a manner that only half of the students remain present in schools on one given day.
For this, the schools have employed the odd-even method while several other schools are operating under a shift system in adherence to the directives issued by the authorities in this regard.
The students were early in the morning seen thronging to their schools, while as the school managements were seen putting in place the required arrangements. The students were allowed to enter the school premises only after their temperature was checked and their hands were sanitized with a facemask on.
Those students without masks were provided with the same by the school management, while strict adherence to the social distancing was made sure inside the classrooms.
In various other schools, where the shift-system of attendance was in place, half of the students of class 9-12 attended the school till 12:30 in the afternoon, after that the classes were sanitized again, and then the rest of the students attended their classes after 1 pm.
While the students were jubilant to be back to their schools, they said that the new normal under which they are attending the schools, they feel a bit nervous and that it will take them some time to adjust to the new surroundings under SOPs.
“This is my first day in class 11th and I feel quite nervous as I have not been able to attend any class after my class 10th, at the same time, I am excited to meet my new teachers,” said Rutba a class 11 th student.
She said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their studies were affected and in the absence of high-speed internet, they were not able to make any use of online classes.
Another student of class 10, Tabeena Mehraj, also expressed somewhat similar feelings and said that she is excited to once again attend the offline classes after such a long gap.
“We were not able to make any good of online classes due to the 2G internet, the offline classes are going to be better,” she said, adding that all the arrangements were put in place by the school.
Notably, the rest of the classes are set to start from March 8 under the same directives and SOPs, while the teachers of the classes up to class 8th have been directed to attend the school for necessary preparations ahead of the resumption of the classes.
