Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Mar 2: A dozen of Talwara migrants representing nearly 2000 migrants from Reasi hills presently accommodated in a camp by the administration called on ProfBhim Singh, president of J&K National Panthers Party with 12- point memorandum demanding ration and other facilities at par with Kashmiri migrants.
Balwan Singh, president of Talwara Migrants Action Committee presented sad story about the inhuman and unjust behaviour of the District Administration as well as the State Government, treating Talwara migrants as beggars, ignoring their plight they suffered in 1999 when they were physically attacked by the militants out of their homes where they were peacefully residing in Mahore, Kotchalwal and other areas.
These areas were disconnected by roads and had no communication system at all. Those who survived managed to run away for their survival and reached Reasi which is about two days walking distance from Reasi. These migrants were provided some barren space and some outdated bastis by the administration.
Half of the migrants were registered as migrants and the rest were kept in broken camps by the administration. Some of them had brought their buffaloes and animals with them and the administration fixed some allowance for the survival of their cattle also.
NPP leader moved a petition in the Supreme Court seeking justice for all the Talwara migrants and treatment at par with Kashmiri migrants in Jammu. Bhim Singh expressed shock that half of the Talwara migrants were not registered as migrants and lately the children of the registered migrants have been ignored from registration and they are not given any benefit of the registration being children of the registered migrants.
Bhim Singh in a strong message to the Manoj Sinha, the Lt. Governor of J&K urged to depute a special team of senior officials who have a human heart and commitment to deliver justice to these wretched of earth who are rotting like animals in the streets of Reasi/Talwara.
Singh expressed surprise that Dy. Commissioner, Reasi has ignored even to look into the appeals/prayers of the suffering Talwara migrants. He said that he has requested the Dy. Commissioner, Reasi to consider the genuine petitions of the Talwara migrants.
