Hakla’s concern over plight of nomadic students

POONCH, Mar 3: Members of Gujjar and Bakerwal community in a meeting at Bandi Chechain near, here today held under the chairmanship of senior Gujjar leader, Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi while discussing various issues confronting the Nomadic Gujjars appealed the Government to take immediate steps in settling them.
The meeting expressed concern that no attention has been paid over the long pending demands of the community which mostly resides in far flung and hilly areas of the UT of J&K.
Addressing the meeting, Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi said that the issues were taken up with the Government from time to time but they are still hanging in balance. He informed the members that the present Government led by Narendra Modi at Centre is however showing a keen interest in giving due rights to the community of which it was deprived for years together. He said the community will get the political reservation in J&K for the fist time which is a historic decision.
He however expressed concern over the plight of Gujjar students saying the Mobile Schools established in the year 1975 by then Chief Minister, Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah for providing the facilities of schooling to children of the community don’t move with Nomads during Summer months to upper reaches and during Winter months to plains with the result the students of the community are deprived of education facilities.
Hakla made an appeal to Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha urging him to intervene in the matter and issue strict directives to concerned officers of Education Department to ensure that the mobile schools move with nomadic Gujjars.
