JAMMU, Mar 4: Former Minister and senior BJP leader, Bali Bhagat raised serious concern over unprecedented hike and continuous blanket ban on building construction material by the Jammu and Kashmir Government which has made the general public to suffer who are being forced to buy sand and Bajri at four times higher rates.
In a statement issued today, the former Minister said that the blanket ban on extraction of sand, gravel and other mining activities and ban on transportation of the same has made the common man suffer the most. The rates of the building material like sand, gravel and stones have increased more than double in just one year under the plea of ban by the High Court.
“Roughly, more than 10 lakh people who are associated with this trade are badly affected for the last more than one year due to the curbs put by the Government on the excavation of the various building materials,” the senior BJP leader said. He expressed resentment against the authorities concerned for their failure to check the prevalent black marketing which leads to a hike in the cost of construction material, across Jammu and Kashmir.
“This has affected the construction work and the ultimately sufferers are the general public. They have to spend more to continue their construction work, as they are purchasing stone, sand and bajri at a higher rate, which is unfortunate. Besides, several Government and development projects have also been badly affected with the shortage of building material,” he said.
The former Minister appealed to the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to intervene into this matter and take adequate measures in curbing the black marketing of construction material which will give a sigh of relief to the general public as well as the traders.
