POONCH, May 27: The police has arrested Sarpanch Faizlabad for committing rape on a minor maid servant and making her pregnant in Surankote area of Poonch district.
Identified as Mohd Riaz Sarpanch Faizlabad, son of Mohd Shafi, resident of same village, a case FIR No. 55/2013, under Sections 376/ 343/ 336/323 RPC has been registered against the village head. A police party led by SHO, DySP (Prob) Bashir Ahmed (Surankote), the accused was nabbed from a hideout at village Barote in Thannamandi today. He was hiding there for the last three days and was brought back today by police. He allegedly made 14-year-old innocent girl from a poor family hailing from the same village as his easy victim and used to sexually assault her forcibly. She was working as domestic help for the Sarpanch family for the last few years.
The matter came to light after the minor girl became pregnant. Sarpanch brought some medicines for her from Rajouri and offered her saying that pregnancy will be aborted with it. As the girl started bleeding after taking medicines at home and her condition deteriorated, the parents shifted her to Surankote hospital. The doctors attending there told that she was pregnant and her life was in danger. Her father Nazir forced the girl to reveal the truth behind. Then poor girl broke down before doctors and parents and narrated that Sarpanch Mohd Riaz used to rape her and threatened her to kill if she told this to anybody.
The parents then lodged an FIR with the Surankote police which registered an FIR in this regard. Police parties were conducting raids. He was today sent to police lock up. Strong resentment was there among the locals in the area against the village head.
