NEW DELHI, Mar 11: Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts and (IGNCA), an undertaking of Government of India and India’s largest art & culture platform dedicated to research and preservation of India’s golden socio-cultural legacy, premiered the first ever film to document the forgotten women achievers of undivided Jammu and Kashmir.
The film StreeDesh- the forgotten women of Kashmir is the first research based film and a monograph that has chronicled and times of 13 legendary women of J&K who were eradicated by various tyrants and zealots who ruled and destroyed the golden legacy of the women of J&K. StreeDesh is the first initiative that restores and brings forth the iconic legacy of the women, their contribution to social, economical, military and political upliftment of the erstwhile State.
Dr Sachidanand Joshi, the illustrious educationist and the member secretary of IGNCA chaired the release function and the premiere of StreeDesh. Many dignitaries including Dr Sushma Jatoo, who was assigned as the Project Director by IGNCA for StreeDesh, Sharad Dutt of Doordarshan and Dr Kumud Sharma of Delhi University were present during the ceremony.
“The world needs to know that the greatest achievements in the world that included world’s first network of public distribution of food grains, first cooperative banking system, world’s first paid army, world’s first commando force, counter intelligence mechanism, the greatest war strategy ever created – the guerilla warfare, parliamentary form of Government and tax reforms were a gift to the world by the women of J&K.,” said Ashish Koul, son of the soil who is the writer and director of StreeDesh.
Apart from the film and the research monograph, Project StreeDesh includes 13 independent books chronicling the life and times of these 13 incredible women.
Produced and presented by Dr Sachidanand Joshi for Government of India, Ashish Kaul’s StreeDesh has placed the women of J&K on the world centre stage. Over the years, these women were lost in time and previous political regimes failed in restoration of the glorious past.
StreeDesh was shot across historical locations all over Kashmir, Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri. It is for the first time the places in the film have been shot. Apart from directing the film, Ashish kaul scripted, handled cinematography and managed the production of the film.
