Appointment of members to Consumer Court

KATHUA, Mar 13: Ajaat Shatru Sharma, president District Bar Association (DBA) Kathua has expressed his satisfaction over the initiative taken by the LG administration of appointment two members of District Consumer Commission (popularly known as ‘Consumer Court’) for Kathua and other districts and State Commission at State level.
Addressing a press conference here, today Adv Ajaat Shatru Sharma expressed the gratitude to the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha for initiating the process. He said that the Consumer Court at Kathua remained non-functional since 2012 due to the vacant position of the two members of the Consumer Court and the courts were adjourned due to absence of quorum till October 31, 2019. Thereafter the consumer files were sent to the J&K Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs due to the winding up of consumer courts in J&K resultantly after to the annulling of Article 370 and enactment J&K Reorganization Act 2019.
He said during the maiden visit of Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha to district Kathua, a delegation of District Bar Association, Kathua had met him in the month September last year and submitted a memorandum demanding nomination of two members of Consumer Court for Kathua & for other districts of J&K.
He said thereafter the Lt. Governor administration through Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and in consultation with the Chief Justice of J&K High Court constituted a Selection Committee for the selection of members of District Commissions and State Commission for entire Jammu & Kashmir in terms of Rule 6 of Consumer Protection.
He said in this context the Selection Committee so constituted issued notification in terms of G.O. No.14 – JK (FCS&CA) of 2021 dated 03-02-2021 and also issued advertisement for the selection of two members of State Commission and District Commissions of the entire J&K. He said in the month of August 2019 Principal District Judge, Kathua, P. D. Kotwal send two panels of members for District Consumer Forum but due to the promulgation of J&K Reorganization Act 2019 the penal could not be finalized as the J&K Consumer Protection Act 1986 was repealed thereof. Sharma further said that by this advertisement dated 26/02/2021 the long pending demand of District Bar Association Kathua in particular and people of district Kathua in general will get fulfilled.
