Jugal flays Govt for deferring ULBs elections

JAMMU, May 28: Making a strong dig at Coalition Government for deferring the elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), BJP State president, Jugal Kishore Sharma today said that the Omar Abdullah Government has been making repeated claims of taking the democracy to the grass root level through local bodies in rural and urban areas but its decision to postpone the elections to ULBs repeatedly on one pretext or the other has exposed it.
While inaugurating a newly constructed lane in Mohalla Barber in Dhoke Waziran Panchyat of the Nagrota constituency, he said the non implementation of the 73rd Amendment to empower the elected Panchayats has shown its lack of faith in democracy and lust to remain in power.
Speaking about the developmental activities in his constituency, Sharma said that a number of works have been undertaken during current year in different Panchayats. Due attention has been paid towards the villages which house the population of the weaker sections. The works which have been started by different agencies of the Government will obviously give new look to many areas on their completion, he added.
Sharma said that Nagrota Assembly constituency is spread over a very large area. Its area and population is more than some constituencies of the Valley. As it is one of the biggest constituency, it needs more funds and the Government should grant additional amount keeping in view the demand of more development.
He also reiterated that BJP will continue to work for the equitable development of all three regions of the State. OBC Cell, Block president Hem Raj was among others present on the occasion.
