Srinagar, Mar 17: After over four months of deadlock over the rates of the mutton between the Government and the mutton dealers of Kashmir Valley, the agreeable rates were today decided after a day-long discussion of all the stakeholders.
In this regard a marathon meeting of the mutton dealers with the Divisional Administration as well as the officials of the Food Department took place in which the rate of one kg of mutton was set at Rs 535, while as the rates for the wholesale was set as Rs 490 per kg, however, an official order in this regard is awaited.
Khazer Muhammad Regoo, President Kashmir Retail Mutton Dealer’s Association told Excelsior that they wanted to end the deadlock as the few unscrupulous elements were taking undue advantage of the deadlock and were selling per kg of mutton even at Rs 700.
“Though there is a nominal profit for them in the rates that have been set, there was a need for acting and accepting the rates that were set after a meeting with the officials as well as the Divisional Commissioner,” he said.
Farooq Ahmed Dar of Kashmir Economic Alliance also said that the mutton shops across Kashmir valley will open up tomorrow and will sell the mutton at the rates that have been decided.
The officials of the Food Department told Excelsior that there was a lot of discussion over the rates and in the end, the rates were finally decided, the official order of which will come tomorrow.
