JAMMU, Mar 19: Strongly condemning the attempts being mode by certain organizations to change the name of BR Ambedkar Chowk in Jammu, NPP chairman Harshdev Singh said that all such nefarious designs of the divisive forces would be fought tooth and nail.
He regretted that some vested political interests were desperate to rename the projects earlier named after B R Ambedkar and a proposal had also mooted in this regard in the Municipal Corporation meeting. This was most shameful and condemnable step. It was wholly unacceptable and any such move would be fought tooth and nail”, Harshdev said.
Addressing a press conference here today, Harshdev said that `Baba Saheb’ was a great legal luminary and a philanthropist who made gigantic and unparalleled contributions in the sphere of democratic jurisprudence. He has given us a constitution which acknowledged the rights of all Indian citizens. Any attempt to lower his image was not only condemnable but could have dangerous consequences, Singh claimed.
Accusing the BJP leadership of showing disrespect to the father of Indian constitution, Singh strongly flayed the derogatory remarks used against Baba Saheb by a BJP leader yesterday. He said that the BJP leader’s statement had sparked massive outrage in Ramnagar and Udhampur but no action was being taken against him due to political patronage of the ruling party.
Several reports of misbehaviour and assaults on SC members including females by these BJP activists had gone unattended which had emboldened such notorious characters. Not only were the common people assaulted, humiliated and intimidated but the officers and employees of SC community were also being harassed by these BJP affiliated men in Ramnagar in particular.
Describing Ambedkar as the true champion of the poor, weaker and marginalized sections of society, Singh said that any attempt to suppress the weaker sections and disrespecting their idols would be vociferously resisted and countered.
Parshotam Parihar, State secretary-JKNPP and Surinder Chouhan , District president Jammu Rural were also present in the conference.
