KATHUA, Mar 19: BJP candidate, Anil Singh Andotra has been elected as new Chairman of Municipal Committee, Nagri defeating his own party candidate Rakesh Kumar Saini who contested as rebel by four votes. Anil Singh Andotra got eight votes out of 13 votes. The Councilor Bablu Kumar was elected unopposed as Vice Chairman as no other candidate filed his nomination paper against him.
Anil Singh has recently joined the BJP after resigning from Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan (DSS) and BJP declared him as new candidate under a secret agreement reached with him. However, this was protested by party Councilor, Rakesh Saini who walked out from joining ceremony. Saini who protested against the party decision decided to contest the election against the official candidate.
The supporters of Andotra and BJP workers celebrated the victory today.
However, when contacted about the decision of BJP candidate of standing as rebel candidate, party general secretary (Org), Ashok Kaul said that indiscipline will neither be allowed nor tolerated in the party. He said there are reports of indiscipline in the elections of Municipal Committees at various places, the party has taken the cognizance of the same and it will act against those party men who are indulging in such activities.
