JAMMU, Mar 24: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena Bala Saheb Thackeray today took out a “Adhikar Rath Yatra” from Jammu to Kashmir, with objective to aware people about their rights and press the Government to accede their demands including State status to Jammu and Kashmir, free electricity & water, extension of rail track towards Rajouri and Poonch, and unemployment allowance to youth.
The Yatra was organized on the direction of Party’s national president and Chief Minister of Maharashtra Udhav Thackeray and was virtually flagged off by national secretary and MP Anil Desai. Rath Yatra move towards Kashmir after passing through Dogra Chowk and Raghunath Bazar to the main markets of Nagrota, Katra and Udhampur while making people aware of their rights.
Speaking on the occasion, party’s J&K president Manish Sahni urged Central Government to fulfill the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest. “More than one and a half years have passed since J&K became a Union Territory but BJP have not been raising the issue of restoring statehood of J&K,” he said, adding that they similarly adopted silence on increasing the assembly seats in Jammu region.
Sahni said that the Government has not formulated policy yet to fulfill the promise of giving employment to the youth of J&K. While terming free electricity, water as the right of the people of J&K, Sahni said that many times more electricity is being generated than consumption. He also demanded 50 percent relaxation in public and Government transport for women, free hold plot in Kashmir for soldiers and expansion of rail track towards Rajouri-Poonch.
The Rath Yatra traveled till Batote today and will leave for Kashmir tomorrow morning.
