Cong declares decisive struggle for statehood

KATRA, Mar 25: The Congress Party today declared `decisive battle’ from the holy township of Katra Mata Vaishno Devi today, for the restoration of statehood with rights for protection of lands and jobs for locals, besides exposing the ‘tax terrorism’ of Modi Government.
The declaration was made by the JKPCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir alongwith top brass of the Congress party, while leading a strong protest demonstration at Katra town today, seeking restoration of statehood, roll back of taxes on petrol, diesel and gas leading to unprecedented price rise of all commodities besides record unemployment and other failures of BJP Government and UT Administration on various fronts.
Mir was accompanied by PCC vice presidents and former ministers Mula Ram and Raman Bhalla; general secretaries Balwan Singh, Manmohan Singh; Co-treasurer Rajnish Sharma; DCC president Jammu Rural Hari Singh Chib; PYC president Uday Bhanu Chib; NSUI State president Sunny Parihar. Addressing a large gathering of protestors Mir declared a war to seek restoration of statehood with protection to land and jobs to youth of J&K and said that apart from other burning issues like unemployment, price hike and mis-governance, the Congress party would intensify its struggle for the restoration of our status, dignity and pride as well as rights of land and jobs to the locals.
He said that youth of Jammu region, too, now realize the loss of taking away of protection to jobs and lands as well as the identity, status and dignity of Dogra State. He said that in the days to come the Congress Party would go for mass movement to further intensify the struggle for statehood, identity and protection of culture and rights of the people and youth of Jammu & Kashmir.
Launching a salvo on Modi Government for crushing the people of the country by heavy doses of taxes and PCC chief said that Modi regime will be remembered in history for tax terrorism. He said that unprecedented hike in petrol, gas and diesel is due to unprecedented taxes and duties imposed by the Modi Government leading to unbearable price rise on all commodities of common use.
He exhorted the people and youth to rise against wrong policies and the dictorial attitude of Modi Government leading to lowest ever economic growth, rising unemployment, privatization of country’s assets and resources and the banks. He said Indira Gandhi had distinction of nationalization of banks to secure the money of depositors, but Modi Government is now reversing those actions after 50 years, thus putting the interest of depositors at stake.
Mula Ram said that Modi Govt has destroyed the economy of the country and put the poor and the common man into great distress due to the wrong economic policies which benefited the rich and the capitalists only. He said that anti- farmers and anti- youth policies of the Modi Government has forced the crores of farmers to fight battle on the streets but the Government is adamant and hell-bent to crush their movement.
Raman Bhalla said that the unprecedented hike of all commodities is due to the huge taxes and duties by the Modi Govt on the petrol, diesel, gas and other items. He said that the Excise duty and taxes are highest in the world under Modi regime when the crude oil in the international market is cheapest in the last two decades. This Govt wants to bring people on their knees, Bhalla added.
Senior leaders Balwan Singh, Manmohan Singh, Udhay Chib (PYC), Rajesh Sadhotra and KC Bhagat also spoke on the occasion.
