2 trucks, 15 bovine animals seized, driver arrested

KATHUA, May 31: The Sales Tax sleuths at Lakhanpur Toll Post seized bovine animals which were being carried to Kashmir Valley in two trucks late last night.
The trucks were also seized by the police later, besides arresting driver of one of the truck while the other inmates of the trucks including the driver of another truck managed to escape giving police a slip.
According to reports two trucks bearing number JK02 AH 7211 and JKo23-8869 were carrying bovine animals from Punjab to Kashmir late last night.
However when they were stopped at Lakhanpur Toll Post the inmates of trucks informed the sleuths of Sales Tax that the two trucks were loaded with horses and they were being carried to Kashmir from Punjab.
However the ST sleuths tried to ascertain the truth and they themselves checked the vehicles which they found were loaded with 15 bovine animals.
The ST sleuths informed Police and it seized the animals and the trucks besides the driver of one of the truck identified as Javed Ahmed of Qazigund in Kashmir Valley was also arrested. But the other inmates of the trucks including the driver of another truck managed to fled by giving a slip to police and ST sleuths.
The Lakhanpur Police has registered a case and started investigation. It has asked the ST Toll Post officials at Lakhanpur to ascertain that how many times in past these trucks crossed the Toll Post and dodged them.
