JAMMU, Mar 26: All J&K PoJK 1947 Sharnarthi Intellectual Forum held a meeting of its Core Committee members under the chairmanship of Amrik Singh here, today which was also addressed by Surjit Singh, general secretary of the Forum.
The meeting appealed to the chairman of the newly constituted Delimitation Commission and also members of the Parliament belonging to J&K UT to reserve at least five Assembly seats out of 24 Assembly seats reserved for POJK people for the DPs. The meeting said since 1951 about 10 lac PoJK displaced persons migrated to Jammu region and now this figure has touched to 20 lac.
The Forum further elaborated that since 74 years have lapsed, the DPs are without their representation either in Assembly or in Parliament and demanded their rights provided in Indian Constitution.
Forum expressed their anguish over deliberately ignoring the POJK 1947 Sharnarthees in awarding the Pahari status and other fundamental rights. It appealed the Prime Minister, Narindera Modi to take this issue seriously because DPs are also the citizens of J&K UT as well as of India and hence they should not be deprived of their rights.
