Govt committed to uplift weaker sections of society: Sham

JAMMU, June 1: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today said that the Government was committed to provide equal opportunities to the people living in three regions of the State, adding that it has accorded priority to the welfare of those belonging to economically weaker sections of the society.
Speaking at a function organized by Jammu and Kashmir Christian Dalit Association, the Minister said that inclusive growth was being followed as fundamental principle while framing the policies at Centre and State level.
The former Minister, Ram Paul was the guest of honour at the function wherein the members of Christian Dalit Samaj raised various demands.
Mr Sham said that the most significant need of the hour was to spread literacy among the backward sections of the society, adding that only education can transform their socio-economic condition. He also stressed for paying special attention towards the education of girl child.
Earlier, former Political Advisor to former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, S Peter Chowan highlighted the issues confronting the Christian community of Jammu and Kashmir and sought early redressal from the Minister.
Senior NC leader and state vice -president Rattan Lal Gupta also spoke on the occasion.
