SRINAGAR, Apr 1: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party today organized women’s convention in which women from all over Kashmir province participated at its office in Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari presided over the one day convention while several other party leaders including general secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir, Provincial president Kashmir Mohammad Ashraf Mir and State secretary & district president Budgam Muntazir Mohi-ud-Din were also present.
Addressing the women’s convention, Altaf Bukhari said that the role of women is of colossal significance in building up a flourishing and progressive society.
“The women folk are real builders of a prosperous society. Regrettably, in current times women security has become a pressing issue and a matter of worrying concern. There exists a profound need for constituting Sexual Harassment Committees in Jammu and Kashmir so that the women can freely work at any office without facing teasing or sexual harassments,” he demanded.
Bukhari said that the case of domestic violence victim from district Anantnag is a blot on our society wherein a mother of two children was allegedly burnt by her in-laws.
“Such culpable incidents are indicative of the veracity of numerous domestic violence cases that have lamentably received a silent approval in our society. However, such barbaric incidents need to end. The administration must ensure the safety of such women by implementing the women protection laws in letter and spirit while punishing the culprits on a prompt basis,” he demanded.
He also announced that the Party will constitute its Provincial and District Women’s Committees shortly as it stands committed for a fair women representation in the political quorums as well.
On the occasion, women participants thanked the Party leadership for organising such an event and expressed their gratitude for raising voices over the pressing women issues. They further avowed to strengthen the Party at grassroots level.
