JAMMU, Apr 1: Prof Qayyum Husain of Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed as new Vice-Chancellor of the Cluster University of Srinagar.
The appointment of Prof Qayyum Husain as the Vice-Chancellor has been made for three years. Vice-Chancellor Kashmir University, Prof Talat Ahmad is presently holding additional charge of VC Cluster University Srinagar.
The appointment was made today by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, who is Chancellor of the Cluster University Srinagar.
“In exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 12 of the Srinagar and Jammu Cluster Universities Act, 2016, I Manoj Sinha, hereby appoint Professor Qayyum Husain, Department of Bio Chemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (UP) as Vice-Chancellor of the Cluster University of Srinagar for a period of three years, with effect from the date he takes over the charge, on the terms and conditions to be notified separately,” read the order in this regard.
Prof Qayyum Husain is currently working as Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, AMU. He has completed all education from Aligarh Muslim University. He did B Sc (Hon’s, Chemistry), M Sc M Phil and Ph D (Biochemistry) in 1980, 1982, 1984 and 1987, respectively. He joined teaching position in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, AMU as a Lecturer in 1987. He was promoted as Reader in the department in 1997 and subsequently, he was appointed as a Professor in 2005 in the same department.
Prof Husain has supervised 17 Ph D, one M Phil, 45 M Sc and 19 B Sc students for their dissertations. He was awarded DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Fellowship to work at the University of Konstanz, Germany from June 1992 to September 1994. He has also served as a Professor and Head of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Jazan University, Jazan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from April 2011 to August 2014.
Dr Husain has published more than 140 research and review articles in peer reviewed and journal of international repute. He has also published 7 book chapters in the books published by international press, such as Academic, CRC, Springer, Nova Science and Wiley Science Publications. His work has been published in some of highly reputed journals.
