NEW DELHI, June 2: The country’s first-ever “Diabetes in Pregnancy” speciality training course for medical professionals was formally launched in the national capital today with a faculty lecture by Dr Jitendra Singh, National Professor of Diabetes and day long tutorial sessions by a distinguished national faculty comprising eminent Professors of Diabetes.
The video messages of best wishes were played on the occasion in which among others, world renowned Diabetologist and WHO Convenor, Dr V. Seshiah spoke from Chennai congratulating the entire medical fraternity for this maiden initiative in India.
Briefing about the course, Dr Jitendra Singh informed that already more than one thousand Gynaecologists & Obstetricians from across the country have registered their names for it while many more are waiting to be inducted.In addition to Delhi,the course will also be conducted soon at regional centers like Chennai,Lucknow and Chandigarh, he added.
The participants in today’s maiden module of the new training programme were primarily drawn from among the country’s senior Gynaecologists and Obstetricians who were particularly delighted by the likely positive benefit emerging from a healthy interaction between them and some of the country’s leading Diabetologists and Endocrinologists.
According to Dr Jitendra Singh,the first module conducted today dwelt on various applied aspects of Gestational Diabetes and diabetes in pregnancy.The first half of module dealt with the alarming epidemic proportion of the problem as the figures indicate a rapidly rising trend of diabetes among pregnant women with accompanying risk to both mother and the foetus, he said, adding that the background of genesis and pathophysiology of Gestational Diabetes was also discussed in this segment while the second half of module dearth with criteria for screening of Blood Sugar levels during pregnancy,the target levels to be achieved and various regimens of treatment available.
