JAMMU, April 7: A Temporal Bone Dissection (TBD) lab under National Deafness Control Programme and upgraded Ward Number 9 were inaugurated today in Department of ENT, SMGS Hospital, Jammu.
The inauguration was done by Financial Commissioner Health & Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo in the presence of Principal GMC Jammu Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shashi said that keeping pace with the advances made in the field of ENT, the operation theatres of ENT Department have been made fully equipped with advanced equipment such as Zeiss operating microscopes, HD cameras with high definition monitors, nasal/oto endoscopes, microdebriders, etc.
“All the FESS and skull base surgeries are being performed with the help of navigation system. Nerve monitors which increase the safety profile of various head and neck surgeries, have also been procured,” she said, adding, all the procedures are being performed by the expert team of consultants.
She further informed that Ward Number 9 has been renovated with central air conditioning, multiple points of oxygen supply and suction ports along with the provision of HDU beds. The Principal disclosed that the establishment of Neuro-otology lab and human genetics lab is being planned for more advanced patient care. “The Department is also committed to restart the cochlear implant programme under NDCP for the rehabilitation of deaf children,” she added.
