Srinagar, Apr 9: The J&K Panchayat Raj Movement (JKPRM) today held a sit-in protest at Press Enclave and raised several issues.
The JKPRM during the protest said that they are basic and real stakeholders of the institution as they sacrificed eighteen precious lives during the last twelve years and the real threat of life still looms large on them.
“The Panchs and Sarpanchs remain under constant threat as they belong to far-flung and uppers reaches of the J&K UT,” they said.
They said that the officials of different officials keep members engaged round the clock by providing them feedback and documentation to appraise their higher-ups.
They said that the recently held elections of District Development Councils and BDCs put the efforts of the Panchayat members behind the screen as they do not belong to Panchayat families.
JKPRM said that either they are contractors, retired Government officials, or the relatives of political leaders and want to grab opportunities in the Panchayat Raj
“Before the Govt will follow the award of procedure, the Panchs should be kept at part with VLWs, sarpanchs with BDO, with regard to their protocol and honorarium,” they said.
The president, PRM, GH. Hassan Punzoo, general secretary GM Sofi, along with hundreds of panchs and Sarpanchs seek the rehabilitation of families of Shaheed Sarpanchs under SRO-43, enhancement in protocol and honorarium.
