Woman commits suicide in Anantnag

SRINAGAR, Apr 10: The situation turned tense in Anantnag today after the family of a lady who allegedly committed suicide set ablaze the house of her in-laws in a moment of rush.
As per details, a lady in her late thirties committed suicide by hanging herself at the house of her in-laws and when the news reached her family, few members came and set ablaze the house in the Moominabad area of the district.
The family has stated that their daughter was continuously harassed by her in-laws and it was the routine harassment that forced her to take the extreme step of killing herself.
As soon as the house was set on fire, the locals rushed to the spot to douse the flames that had engulfed the house from all the sides. The fire tenders also reached the spot and after hectic efforts, the flames were doused, however, the residential house suffered damage.
Police said that they are investigating the reasons that led the lady to commit suicide and that they will also take action against the individuals who set the house on fire.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Anantnag Imtiyaz Hussain told Excelsior that the police have lodged two FIRs in the matter and have also made few arrests.
“One FIR has been registered regarding the suicide that the lady has committed under harassment. The case has been registered against her husband and family members and also we have registered an FIR against the family members of the lady who set the house on fire,” he said.
