Earthquake victims without relief, assistance: Niaz

JAMMU, June 4: Former Minister and MLA Bhaderwah, Mohd Sharief Niaz today alleged that earthquake victims are without any relief or assistance.
Mr Niaz who conducted extensive tour of his Bhaderwah constituency said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced Rs 25 crore relief besides free ration as per 2011 Census out of his Relief Fund in favour of earthquake victims of erstwhile Doda but the victims are still without any financial assistance/ relief. He pointed out that the Central Government too is understood to have announced an amount of Rs 334 crore but after preliminary assessment of damages on ground it has been indicated that more than Rs 740 crore was needed for the purpose.
The Congress leader further said that during earth quake two persons namely Gussain Ram, son of Shiv Dayal, resident of Soti in Bhaderwah and Nessa Begum, wife of late Ghulam Rasool Malik of the same area lost their lives and about 26 were injured. Many schools, health centres and other buildings besides nearly 90% houses of the people got damaged in this natural calamity but the public is still waiting for any help despite that fact that over one month time has passed. Many people are still spending nights in the open. The tents provided at a few places are not sufficient.
The MLA demanded that public be provided adequate financial assistance and free timber as the construction cost these days has gone too high. He also demanded that labour class of the area be provided their pending wages. He also demanded that withheld salaries of ReT teachers, EVs, PHE/PDD/ Forest dailyrated consolidated workers be released without any delay. Mr Niaz demanded that people connected with preparation of assessment list should do justice to all and fair lists be prepared without any more delay.
