SRINAGAR, June 4: The Legal Metrology Department today booked a Jammu-based ice-cream manufacturing firm for smudging original prices of the product.
A statement of the department said on a specific complaint lodged by the consumers, the Inspector Legal Metrology, Mohammed Yasin booked the firm which has pre-packaged ice-cream packs with smudged original prices.
Under Packaged Commodities Rules, even the manufacturer is not allowed to alter or smudge the MRP once printed on the pack. The legal notice was served to the firm which confessed the guilt and pleaded for compounding the offence.
At the instructions of Joint Controller, Kashmir, Kewal Krishan Assistant Controller slapped a fine of Rs 15000 for the lapse.
