Elections of J&K HC Bar Association deferred

JAMMU, Apr 22: The elections of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association have been deferred.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the election committee held today under the chairmanship of Surinder Singh Advocate to reassess the situation for holding of elections of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu which were deferred earlier.
The committee noted that the High Court vide its notification dated 05–04–2021 discontinued physical hearing and further extended it till 30th of April 2021, and on the top of that District Magistrate Jammu vide its order dated 18-04-2021 restricted the assembly of persons for gathering/functions to 100/50 persons respectively and imposed night curfew in Jammu city.
Keeping in view health and safety of the members of the Bar and the seriousness of the prevailing situation in the city of Jammu due to COVID-19, the committee decided that it is not in the interest of members of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu to hold elections at present.
The Committee unanimously decided to reassemble and reassess the situation again on 15-05-2021 to decide the date of election.
