JAMMU, Apr 22: BJP J&K Unit vice president, Yudhvir Sethi has sought the review of the schedule announced for opening of shops on alternate days.
In a handout issued here, today he said that the schedule seems to be cumbersome rather than convenient for the people. The BJP leader said that the staggered timings as well as the opening of business establishments on alternate days have been causing harassment to both business community as well as the consumers.
Yudhvir Sethi said that in view of the marriage season the people especially those having marriage functions in their families are highly perturbed over the schedule announced by the Union Territory administration. He highlighted that the said decision needs an immediate review as it is going to result in great loss to the business community as well as to the consumers at large.
Sethi said that it is a fact that the nation including this Union Territory is going through an unprecedented crisis in which safety and security of individuals has to be accordeD top priority, but the decisions taken in this direction need to be balanced so that there is least inconvenience to the common people as well as it does not affect the battle against the COVID-19.
Recalling the statement of the Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan that the next three weeks are going to be crucial for the spread of the deadly virus, Sethi said that either there should have been a complete lockdown during this crucial period or else there should be complete lockdown on last two days of the week. He claimed that only then it would be possible to break the chain of virus spread.
Yudhvir Sethi appealed to the UT administration to first convene a meeting of trade bodies first and after due deliberations review the 50 percent shop opening criteria for business establishments so that no inconvenience is caused either to the common man or to the business community which has already suffered heavy economic loss during the previous year. He further suggested that if not possible, the schedule be amended at least till the marriage season comes to end.
