JAMMU, June 7: The Shastra Seema Bal (SSB) today handed over custody of three Kashmiri militants to Delhi Police at Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh for keeping them in rehabilitation centre before handing them over to Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), where they would be tried for illegal exfiltration and infiltration if they were not wanted in any other charges.
The militants of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) were arrested by the SSB yesterday soon after they had infiltrated into Indian side from Nepal border through village Rupaideeha in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh
Official sources said the Delhi Police would keep the militants at Sarai Kale Khan rehabilitation centre before handing them over to Jammu and Kashmir Police. The militants were detained on Nepal border without any significant recoveries. They had reached Kathmandu in Pakistan Airlines Plane from Karachi and then entered into the Indian side from village Rupaideeha, bordering Nepal in UP’s Bahraich district.
The three arrested militants had been identified as Mohammad Akbar Lone son of Khazar Mohammad Lone R/o Karalkon, Kupwara, Mohammad Shaffi War son of Mohammad Siddiqui War, a resident of Sopore, Baramulla and Manzoor Ahmad Jasgar son of Abdullah Fateh Jasgar R/o Tangmarg, Baramulla.
Lone and Shaffi belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit while Jasgar was affiliated with JKLF.
Sources said the militants were not arrested in Bahraich as they had disclosed during their questioning that they had applied for surrender under Rehabilitation Policy of Jammu and Kashmir and were on way back to their houses.
During interrogation, the arrested militants reportedly told the SSB and Bahraich police that they had joined militants in early nineties and proceeded to Pakistan for arms training. However, they admitted that they were now fed up with militancy, which was on vain, and wanted to live a peaceful life under Rehabilitation Policy of the J&K Government.
They claimed that the were unable to enter India through four routes prescribed under the Rehabilitation Policy due to threats by Pakistan Army and their Intelligence agencies, they opted for Nepal route. They disclosed that many more militants wanted to come through Nepal route and surrender.
Four routes prescribed under the Rehabilitation Policy included Uri-Muzaffarabad in Kashmir, Poonch-Rawlakote in Jammu, both falling on the Line of Control (LoC), Wagah border in Punjab on the International Border (IB) and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi.
They were reported to have disclosed before the SSB, which has been deployed on Nepal border, that they were not married to Pakistani girls like other militants, who had married in Pakistan or PoK due to their prolonged stay in the country, where they had gone for arms training in nineties.
Sources said Special Cell of Delhi Police had sought the custody of Manzoor Ahmad Jasgar of JKLF as his activities were doubtful. The militant could be quizzed at the Rehabilitation Centre before being handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Police.
About 270 militants and their Pakistani wives and children have reached their houses in Jammu and Kashmir after the announcement of Rehabilitation Policy by the State Government.
