JAMMU, Apr 28: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla has said that there was urgent need of adopting uniform approach to fight second wave of Covid-19 in the jammu and Kashmir.
While interacting with people during his visit to Rajiv Gandhi 100-beded hospital at Gangyal, Bhalla alleged that BJP Govt failed to make this hospital fully functional even after the lapse of seven years.
Bhalla  said that then Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had laid the foundation stone of this hospital at Gangyal with an estimated cost of Rs 72.45 crore on Feb 13, 2014 under National Rural Health Mission Scheme of the Central Government, with an OPD block, IPD block, operation theatres (OTs), ICU, NICU among other treatment and diagnostic facilities. But BJP Govt could not make it operational. He demanded the government to make the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Gangyal a General Hospital.
He said all types of specialist doctors should be provided in it. Due to this, the burden of patients on Gandhinagar and GMC Hospital will also be reduced. This will benefit thousands of people from many areas including Kunjwani, Gangyal, Digyana, Greater Kailash, Sainik Colony, Bandhurakh, Babliana, Dharap, Apna Vihar and adjoining areas. Unfortunately, BJP-PDP government reduced its capacity to 50 beds, creating strong resentment among the people. Even BJP failed to make Rs 5 crore PHC at Lower Gadigarh.
He said amid Covid-19 scare had the PHC made functional, it could have been converted into Covid-19 hospital much to the relief of locals. He said BJP Govt did not release single penny to make this hospital functional resulting in utter disappointment among locals who have to move city hospitals for even ordinary ailments. In this regard. He urged LG Administration to take care of this issue on priority and must take steps to make this PHC functional at the earliest. He also brought the issue into the notice of Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langar.
Bhalla said the rise in Covid-19 cases and deaths due to the deadly virus in J&K is worrisome. The government has failed to tackle the pandemic. Corona is at a “dangerous stage” and until an effective mechanism is developed it will be a long and hard battle. “The government should increase beds with high-flow oxygen in hospitals at the earliest. They must purchase more ventilators to augment the capacity of hospitals and increase the strength of doctors and paramedical staff.
He urged the LG Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam and Financial Commissioner H&ME Atal Dulloo to start Gandhi Nagar Hospital’s OPD at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital Gangyal, which is easily accessible by making it well-equipped infrastructure and surplus staff.
