Youth opens firing in group clash, 9 arrested

JAMMU, June 8: A miscreant opened firing from his licensed weapon at his rival as the two groups clashed over land dispute at Soketar, Domail under the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli police station this evening.
Police spokesman said that, two rival groups today had a tiff over a land dispute at Soketar when both of them, headed by Gurmeet Singh of Chatha and Balbir Singh alias Pinka of Nanak Nagar staked claim over same piece of 10 to 12 kanals of land.
On getting information, police rushed to the spot and dispersed them. But later, the two groups had verbal dual in which Gurmeet Singh son of Tajinder Singh of Chatha opened firing in the air with his licensed revolver.
On hearing the gun shot, police rushed led by SHO Jhajjar Kotli Inspector Pervez Sajjad under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Khaliq Choudhary rushed to the spot and arrested nine persons including Gurmeet Singh. Police seized the revolver used in the firing.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gurvinder Singh alias Sunny, son of Gurdev Singh of Sanjay Nagar, Ramneek Singh alias Neetu, son of Lal Singh of Nanak Nagar, Balbir Singh alias Pinka, son of Lal Singh of Nanak Nagar, Harmeet Singh, son of Kuljeet Singh of Simble Camp, Jagdev Raj, son of Darshan Lal of Gadigarh, Varinder Singh, son of Dedar Singh of Gole Gujral, Daler Singh, son of Hardeep Singh and Gara Singh, son of Chain Singh, both residents of Gangyal besides Gurmeet Singh son of Tejinder Singh R/o Chatha Mill.
Police said Gurmeet and Balbir Singh had purchased 10-12 kanals land near Soketar, Domail and had visited there for the demarcation of the said land.
A case has been registered at Jhajjar Kotli police station against all the accused and further investigations in the case were on.
