One death, 140 cases in Ladakh; many positive at SECMOL Campus

JAMMU, May 3: Jammu and Kashmir today reported 50 more COVID casualties and 3733 positive cases. Jammu region accounted for 35 deaths and 1294 positives.
Among 35 fatalities in Jammu region, 10 were women while Jammu district continued to account for maximum deaths with 24 persons succumbing to Coronavirus. Four deaths were recorded in Rajouri, two each Poonch and Ramban and one each in Udhampur, Doda and Kathua districts.
The fact that COVID-19 has fast spread to rural areas of Jammu region was evident from the fact that more than half of the deaths in Jammu district were reported from rural areas while in other districts maximum deaths were recorded in semi-urban and rural belt.
Former Union Home Secretary and his wife, putting up at Gandhi Nagar, tested positive for COVID-19 here today.
As many as 26 doctors were found infected with the virus in Jammu region while a Sub Inspector and three police constables reported positive in the District Police Lines (DPL). Four more officials of the Crime Branch and two children from CRPF Bantalab also tested positive.
Among 35 deaths, 25 occurred at the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
COVID deaths in Jammu district were reported from Janipura and Trikuta Nagar (two each), Pindi Charakan Arnia, Domana, Nanak Nagar, Govindpura Chatha, Om Nagar, Jain Bazaar, Chakrohi and Chak Shero, both RS Pura, Shastri Nagar, Beopar Nagar Narwal, Qasim Nagar, Sarwal, Gho Manhasan, Kachi Chawni, Circular Road, Trikuta Nagar, Akhnoor, Prem Nagar, Bantalab and Talab Tillo.
Four deaths in Rajouri district came from Siot Sunderbani, Rajdhani, Thanna Mandi and Rajouri town while two deaths of Poonch took place at Saiklu Mandi and Timra Mandi. Two deaths of Ramban were recorded in Chakka Kundi and Kow Bagh villages.
One death each was reported from Kud in Udhampur district, Korora Prem Nagar in Doda and Kathua town.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu Anshul Garg today added wholesalers dealing with medicines and other pharmaceuticals and groceries in the list of partially permissible activities in the district from 6 am to 10 am during the lockdown.
The district administration Rajouri today declared Ward No. 3 in Kalakote, Ward Nos. 1 to 6 in Koteranka and Doordarshan Colony in Nowshera as micro-Containment Zones.
Thirty five fresh COVID deaths have taken Jammu region’s Corona toll to 981, the highest being 534 in Jammu district, 73 Rajouri, 69 each Udhampur and Doda, 66 Kathua, 59 Samba, 39 Poonch, 30 Ramban, 22 Kishtwar and 20 in Reasi district.
Among 1294 COVID positive cases reported in Jammu region today, Jammu district continued to account for maximum with 584 cases while Samba also recorded single-day highest 209 cases. In Kathua district, 112 persons tested positive for the virus followed by 111 in Rajouri, 97 Reasi, 86 Udhampur, 44 Ramban, 30 Poonch, 12 Doda and nine in Kishtwar district.
As many as 626 persons recovered from the virus including 363 in Jammu district, 77 Reasi, 59 Kathua, 51 Kishtwar, 49 Udhampur, 12 Rajouri, 10 Poonch and five in Doda district.
Jammu region now has 73199 Corona cases. Number of the active positives cases has risen to 12323 while 59895 patients have recovered from the virus and there have been 981 casualties.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported one Corona casualty and 140 new cases.
A 48-year-old male from Thiksay in Leh district died of COVID-19 today taking death toll in the UT to 145—101 in Leh and 44 in Kargil.
Of 140 new cases, 113 were reported from Leh and 27 from Kargil taking Corona count in Ladakh to 14226. Of them, 1346 are active positives while 12735 have recovered from the virus.
Deputy Commissioner Leh Shrikant Balasaheb Suse today declared Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) Campus as Containment Zone after reporting of a cluster of COVID positive cases from there.
