Seminar on ‘ A World Free of Nuclear Weapon’ organised

JAMMU, June 9: All India Peace and Solidarity Organization, J&K Chapter, organized a seminar on the topic “A World Free of Nuclear Weapons” at Press Club Jammu, here today.
Member of Parliament Choudhary Lal Singh, who was chief guest on the occasion, stressed that total ban on nuclear weapons was the prime need of the hour to save mankind from nuclear catastrophe. He recollected how late Rajiv Gandhi stressed on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful means and especially in the field of medicine. He assured the organisers that he would support their cause and take their messages to the appropriate corners.
Earlier, opening the seminar, Ashwani Pradhan, general secretary AIPSO, J&K Chapter, recollected former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s speech in UN Assembly on an action plan to eliminate all the nuclear weapons by 2010 in a phased manner. However, even after the lapse of 25 years nothing concrete has been done in this regard, he lamented.
Com G S Charak while deliberating on the issue categorically criticized the developed and the rich countries for jeopardizing the cause of elimination of nuclear weapons.
K K Kaushal, a veteran trade unionist, deliberated on the issue and apprised the audience about the impending danger to mankind from the imperialist and neo-imperialist forces.
Surinder Singh Bunty, president National Youth Conference, proposed a resolution to be presented to the Government of India. The resolution was seconded by Advocate Anwar Choudhary and adopted by a voice vote.
The proceedings were conducted by Sanjay Gupta and the vote of thanks was presented by Anwar Choudhary.
Prominent among others who addressed the gathering include Dr Taran Singh, Dr Vinay Rampal, Amir-u-din Kasana, Haji Mohd Yousuf, Balkar Singh, Hardeep Singh ‘Deep’, Akash Manhas, Dalip Singh Bhatti, Jameel Kazmi and Gajan Singh.
