RAJOURI, June 9: A leopard killed eight goats of a villager near Hasplot in Thanna Mandi while in another incident a leopard and two young cubs created terror at a hamlet near Ajmatabad falling in same area and made the villagers confine themselves inside for over four to five hours today.
Reports said a leopard entered into the cattle-shed of one Mohd Sadiq, son of Gh Mohd at village Hasplot in higher reaches of Thanna Mandi area last night. The entire family was sleeping in the adjoining rooms. The leopard killed and mauled at least eight poor animals and escaped. The poor villager led by Sarpanch of the area reported the matter to Thanna Mandi police which has taken cognizance of the matter and informed Wild Life Department.
Meanwhile, the villagers from Kunda-Ajmatabad had to confine themselves inside for hours together when a leopard and two cubs entered the village and stayed inside a kutcha house for few hours. The villagers got frightened and locked themselves and their children inside.
The village head Fazal Hussain then contacted Police and Wild Life/ Forest officials who reached there after two hours. When they burst some fire crackers, the wild animals came out of the house and then hid in the nearby bushes. The Forest and Wild Life staff tried to catch them but they managed to escape with the fear of fire crackers. The villagers pleaded the Wild Life Department officials to neutralize the leopard or shift it to Wild Life park at Jammu.
