VIJAYPUR, May 6: Apni Party Provincial President and Former Minister Manjit Singh today appealed to the Agriculture Department to strengthen its staff for procurement of agricultural produce of farmers in Samba district.
“The Agriculture Department has failed to procure the agricultural produce from the farmers and hence, compelled them to sell their produce to the middle-men on lower cost,” alleged Manjit Singh in a statement issued today.
He further said that the department concerned has remained unable to procure all the produce of the farmers and middlemen take advantage of the situation causing financial losses to the farmers.
“The middlemen collect agriculture produce from the doorstep of the farmers even as they pay less than the rate set by the Govt and on the other, the Govt has taken no concrete steps to increase its staff for procurement of the agriculture produce from the fields of the farmers in a bid to facilitate them,” alleged Manjit Singh
He said that if someone visited the procurement centres with their produce; the officials were deputed there made multiple excuses to procure them which shows lack of interest of the Department to procure farmers’ produce, resulting of it the farmers sell their produce to middlemen that too at lowest prizes.
He appealed the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to review the functioning of the Department concerned, so that the farmers sell their produce systematically that too at set rates, announced by the Govt.
