JAMMU, June 10: All J&K Sikh Unity Forum (SUF), Jammu, has appealed Chief Minister OmarAbdullah to fufill his promise regarding amendment of 73rd Panchayat Act, which he had made before Assembly elections in the State.
The Forum said that that due to rampant corruption prevalent in the State officials, the money meant for the development of the far flung areas, sanctioned by the Government does not reach to the poor persons, as it is misused by the middlemen. So demand of the time is empowerment of the Panchayats, which can play major role to check such malpractices in the State and clear way for over all development of the State.
The Forum members also criticized State Government for his failure to hold local bodies elections of urban areas, which they alleged were discouraging the democratic system in the State.
