JAMMU, May 8: As one-time exception due to the prevailing COVID pandemic situation, the University of Jammu authorities have declared to conduct the End Semester external examinations through online mode for the students of BE/ B. Tech/ B. Architecture, besides B.Ed course regular and as well private candidates.
The University sources told the Excelsior that the Google classrooms shall be created for different branches and class code will be shared with the candidates through e-mail or other means. The candidates will have to join the relevant Google classrooms with their mail-IDs and University Registration number. The attendance form, followed by the Link to the Question Paper shall be posted on the classrooms, the sources added.
It was further declared that the duration of the exams shall be 50 minutes as per the time schedule/ date sheet to be notified and an extra 10 minutes shall be provided to the students to facilitate the submission of the answer paper. And there will be no provision of re-evaluation in the examination conducted through online mode, the sources revealed.
Sources added that in view of the disruption caused by the pandemic in all spheres of life, the University authorities have put in place efficient mechanism to ensure the safety of the students and is making all efforts using the resources available to save the academic year of the students.
“Vice-Chancellor, Prof Manoj K Dhar, convened series of meetings with the Deans, Heads and faculty from the University of Jammu and also the Principals of various Colleges affiliated with the University of Jammu, to undertake several steps to conduct the examinations of regular, private and distance learners of UG and PG levels,” the sources added.
They said the process of conducting ‘an open book examination’ of UG courses (Choice Based System) at the College level is already going on wherein, the private students have also been accommodated along with the regular students of these Colleges.
With regard to Engineering students, after a series of meetings with the concerned Dean and Faculty and based on the recommendations it was approved to conduct 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th-semester examinations of B.E./B. Tech./ B. Architecture (Regular and Private) students through the virtual/ online mode. The notification for the same stands issued along with the date sheet of examinations of B.E. 7th Semester, the sources said.
They further maintained that Vice-Chancellor, constituted a committee chaired by the Dean Academic Affairs to look into the modalities to be adopted for conducting examinations of B.Ed students. The Exam of 4th Semester students is being held on May 16 and 17 (course 401, 402). Based on the detailed recommendations of the committee, it was decided that the examination of B.Ed 3rd semester (2019-21) shall be conducted online and shall have written and oral components.
In the meanwhile, the classwork of 4th semester was directed to start immediately in online mode. Date sheet for the online examination of B.Ed 4th semester special examination 2020 has also been issued for the left-out students. Moreover, the exams of BE (Sem 7th) students are commencing on May 19.
The Vice Chancellor after meeting with the staff and officials from the Directorate of Distance Education approved that the Directorate of Distance Education shall also conduct Online Open Book examination(Non-CBCS) for the students of 1st, 3rd and 5th semesters (Regular /Private). This meeting was also attended by Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Jasbir Singh Controller of Examinations, and other officials from the Examination Wing of the University of Jammu. However, the process and pattern of examinations shall be notified separately.
The VC has also directed the Controller of Examinations to conduct all PG examinations (Non-CBCS) of the Offsite campuses through the Nodal Departments. The date sheet of the 3rd-semester examination of PG English, Bhaderwah Campus has also been notified in this regard and exam is commencing on May 17.
After meeting with the concern authorities, the JU authorities decided award of Ph.D. to the successful candidates. In all, 13 scholars were awarded Ph.D. degree in the meeting attended by the Dean Research Studies, Controller of Examinations, Deans of different faculties, Head of different departments and supervisors of the scholars along with the staff from the Examination Wing University of Jammu.
Meanwhile, the offline examinations of the Medical stream stand postponed as per the directions of the Ministry of Education and notified by the UGC, with regard to holding of offline examinations, till further orders.
“The students are advised to check the website of the Controller of Examinations, University of Jammu for updated information,” the JU spokesman said.
