JAMMU, May 9: Under the terrible circumstances triggered by COVID-19 pandemic, the private diagnostic centres and clinic owners are taking undue advantage and charging high rates of tests from the patients with authorities of Health and Medical Education Department (H&ME) in slumber.
This was stated by Dr. Vikas Sharma, J&K president of National Secular Forum (NSF) in a press conference here today.
“There is no control by the agencies mandated to regulate rates of tests and medical check-ups,” Dr. Sharma said adding that private diagnosis centres are charging different rates for CT scan which range from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 5000 and that of Ultra Sound from Rs. 800 to Rs.1400.
“Role of Drug Controller Department is in doubt in this regard,” he maintained.
The NSF leader claimed that similar is the conditions of radiological investigations like X-rays etc.
“All such diagnostic centres exploit visiting patients without COVID negative report,” he said appealing J&K LG to take cognizance of the matter and direct H&ME department to depute its inspection teams for necessary action and display rate lists approved by the department to avoid loot of the patients.
Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Papinder Singh, Pushpinder Singh and Rahul Sharma were also present in the news conference.
