DoNER and NE ministers to visit Thailand and Cambodia

AGARTALA, June 11:  Union Minister of DoNER, Paban Singh Ghatowar, is heading a 30-member business delegation from North East India to Thailand and Cambodia tomorrow to discuss bilateral investment opportunities.
Official sources here today stated three Industry Ministers from Assam, Mizoram and Nagaland – Pradyut Bardoloi, Hiato and Phom Pangnyu will accompany the delegation along with their officials and local entrepreneurs.
The Delegation, which leaves for Phnom Penh on June 12 is expected to return to India on June 18, has been organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce with Ministry of DONER, Indian Embassies and leading Chambers of Commerce in these two countries.
Although, the visit to Cambodia appears to be a maiden effort of the Chamber to include the Country in the partnership for Northeast India’s development program, the visit of the Senior Commerce Minister, HE Cham Prasidh to the ICC’s Business Summit in Guwahati in 2008, and his open invitation to the region’s business community, have awakened hopes of some discussions on agriculture, mining, tourism and other areas where South East Asia is known to be strong.
Considering the social and cultural affinity between Northeast, Thailand and Cambodia goodwill created so far by the exchange of visits of high level Government and private individuals, officials added.
While North East India and Thailand have taken significant strides in building bridges in the field of Trade and Commerce over the years, India’s excellent political relations with Cambodia continues to provide a fertile ground for growth of economic ties.
