Srinagar, May 14: A National Health Mission (NHM) employee in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been harassed and verbally manhandled by the police personnel when he was on the way to attend his duties in Kupwara.
As per the details, yesterday an incident has occurred wherein an employee working as District Accounts Manager under NHM at CMO Office Kupwara was harassed by the police personnel while he was on his way from Baramula-Kupwara to attend his duties.
The officer told Excelsior that he was stopped by the police at around 9: 45 in the morning near Nanak Bhavan stop Baramulla and was asked to return.
He said that he told the police personnel on duty that he works with the Health Department and was on his way to attend his duties. “But they did not budge and hurled choicest abuses and harassed me,” he told Excelsior on the condition of anonymity.
He said that he kept repeating that he has to attend his duties, but like him, they did not budge. “While a policeman was arguing with me unnecessarily others came in and joined him. One police personnel tried to beat me with his lathi and even slide in his baton through the window but could not; another one tried to grab the car key but I held his baton,” he told Excelsior.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rauoof Chief Spokesperson of JKNHMEA said that the Divisional Commissioner was visiting District Kupwara to assess the health services provided to common masses and the officer concerned was on his way to reach there.
JKNHMEA said that the police ignored his valid departmental identity proof and instead resorted to ‘unlawful’ behaviour which is unacceptable to us and the association which condemns such acts.
“The association will lodge a strong protest to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, DC Kupwara, DC Baramula along with Mission Director NHM,” he said.
He said that the Association will also raise the issue with the higher authorities and will also compel them to take strong action against the said miscreants.
