Less than 3 pc Indians fully vaccinated: Cong leader

JAMMU, May 14: Former Minister and Senior Congress leader, Yogesh Sawhney flayed the Government decision to increase time gap between two doses of Covishield vaccine to 12-16 weeks from the earlier 6-8 weeks.
He said that both doses of Coronavirus vaccines have been administered to only 2.8 per cent of the Indian population so far.
“Amid increasing infection, this decision seems to have come more out of shortage of vaccines than of any scientific rationale,” he stated in a handout adding that the decision will slow down the vaccination drive in India.
He said that government’s approach towards the vaccination drive is extremely weak and unstable.
“There is shortage of vaccines across the country and vaccine manufacturers are selling the same at different prices to the centre and states” the Congress leader maintained.
He also said, the government has been falsely claiming for having given crores of rupees for vaccination research and development.
Sawhney said that another major problem with vaccination system here is the double pricing scheme being adopted by vaccine manufacturers.
“Only about 10 per cent of the population has been vaccinated with one dose which cannot be considered complete vaccination,” he further said adding that the need of hour is that the government should go for vaccinations through proper planning and management.
