Action Plan for flood control measures discussed

SAMBA, June 12:  The District administration today discussed and finalized the Action Plan to deal with any eventuality of flash floods during the upcoming monsoon in this border district
The Action Plan envisaging the measures to deal with situation arising from floods was discussed at a meeting of officers chaired by the Deputy Commissioner R.K Varma.
The meeting laid stress on keeping close vigil on the flood prone villages situated along the two major rivers   Basanter and Devak and other Nallahs flowing through various parts of the district.
The Action Plan prepared by Executive Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Samba was discussed threadbare and it was directed that the officers/officials of Irrigation & Flood Control, PDD and PHE should remain available at their respective headquarters  and keep the men and machinery   in readiness to meet any eventuality.
The Executive Engineer, Flood Control informed the meeting  that a control room will be established with an helpline  telephone number 01923-243248, besides a WLL number 01923-219306 for responding to the situation promptly.
The Executive Engineer Flood Control, Samba and Executive Engineer, Irrigation Mechanical were directed to keep sand bags, crates and dewatering pumps ready for meeting the requirement, besides also making necessary arrangements for machinery and equipment.
The Chief Medical Officer was asked to keep sufficient stock of Anti Snake Bite and Anti Cholera vaccine, besides arrangement of First Aid and ambulances in rural areas. The Executive Engineer, PHE was asked to ensure proper chlorination of drinking water during the monsoon season.
The representative of District Police, Samba was directed to keep the wireless facilities available, and remain alert to meet any emergent situation during the flood season. Education Department was asked to keep temporary accommodation in schools available in case of emergency.
The officers representing 168 Infantry Brigade were requested to keep the manpower, machinery and equipment ready in case of emergency. The Telecom Department was directed to ensure proper functioning of all telephone lines during monsoon season.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, B. S. Jamwal, Representative of 168 Infantry Brigade, Assistant Commissioner Development, besides the officers/officials of various departments.
