JAMMU, May 18: In the meeting of office bearers of All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) held through video conferencing, the Chairman Inderjeet Khajuria has expressed great anguish over the discrimination meted out to Jammu people connected with tourism sector once again by announcing unequal financial assistance relief package to the two regions of J&K UT, Kashmir getting the 99.43 per cent share and Jammu 0.57 per cent share of total package.
According to Pawan Gupta, President of the association, tourism fraternity of Jammu is shocked and dismayed over the step motherly treatment of administration in distribution of relief package amount between the two regions of J&K UT. Since independence, Jammu is always at the receiving end in every sphere of development and all claims of Government of equal treatment to both regions especially after the abrogation of Article 370 fell flat once again, he added.
“Jammu people have great expectations of equitable development from the Government particularly after scrapping of Article 370 and formation of Union Territory and all their hopes of ending the decades long injustice again dashed to the ground because of such acts like latest allocation of unequal funds to both regions. The association failed to understand the logic behind this unequal distribution”, Gupta maintained.
He said that at this critical juncture when the tourism sector of the both regions is equally affected and on the verge of extinction, the Government’s unequal disbursement of funds has played with the emotions of Jammu people and caused sheer injustice to them.
Gupta further said that Government should come forward and announce an equal relief package in favour of Jammu tourism sector, thereby, removing the stigma of discrimination.
He further added, in this tough time, Government should exempt the tourism sector from various Government fees and charges till J&K UT becomes COVID free.
Other office bearers present in the meeting were ML Sharma, Pritam Sharma, Anil Khajuria, HS Manhas, Baldev Raj, Sunil Suri, Swarn Singh, Sankul Gupta, Manpreet Singh, Varun Gupta and Nishant Gupta.
