Govt committee to examine issue of shoals in Tawi

JAMMU, May 21: For examining the issue of removal of shoals at various locations on River Tawi at Jammu, the Government today constituted a committee.
Headed by director, Ecology, environment & remote Sensing, J&K, the committee shall examine the issue of formation of shoals in River Tawi at 18 locations, identified by Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti (I&FC) Department, Jammu.
The committee shall suggest measures for removal of shoals to prevent likely damage to the embankments and habitations on both banks of river Tawi in and around Jammu city.
The Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti (I&FC) Department, Jammu shall facilitate the committee in terms of logistics, if any, required and the committee shall furnish its report to the Jal Shakti Department within a fortnight.
Director, Geology & Mining Department, J&K; Director, Handicrafts & Handlooms, Kashmir, J&K; member Secretary, Pollution Control Board, J&K and Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti (I&FC) department, Jammu are Members of the committee.
