JAMMU, May 21: J&K Radio, Doordarshan and Stage Artists & freelance Producers & Directors Association, Srinagar has appealed the Government to provide the artists cash relief as during Corona Pandemic, they have become totally jobless.
“Under present scenario of pandemic, the artist fraternity of J&K is the highest sufferer on economic front as this section of the society which includes performing artist of stage, radio and television, musicians, singers, the equipment holders, writers, freelance producers and directors has become jobless,” the Association said in a handout.
The Association said Government released an amount of Rs 9000 per artist in 2020-21 which gave the jobless artists a little oxygen to keep the wheels of their families moving but still it is very difficult for them to survive and provide bread and butter to their families under these stressful economic conditions.
President of the Association, Tariq Javaid urged the LG to have a sympathetic consideration towards this fraternity and sanction a regular monthly relief of Rs 6000 or more to each family of an artist until the pandemic is over and they are able to at least move out of their homes to search for bread and butter.
