JAMMU, May 22: The field of Art and Culture bore the brunt of COVID-19 pandemic as by March 2020 most cultural institutions in J&K were either indefinitely closed or had their services curtailed.
In a press conference here today Umesh Singh, Chairman All J&K Choreographers Association Jammu said, during the pandemic there was no help of any kind available to the artists from government and the artists remained suffering.
“We request to the Academy of Art, Culture and Languages to release the pending payments of artists which is pending for a longtime,” he demanded.
Singh also said that there is a need of proper communication with tourism regarding programmes from where artists may get their payments.
“Artists performed in various festivals like Gandola Inauguration, NZCC (Nai Umeed Nai Pehal), Shivratri festival, winter carnival, Mansar festival etc but payments to them are still awaited,” he maintained appealing to Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha to permit artists of J&K to start online programmes for different departments so that they and their families may survive in this pandemic time.
