CJI visiting Valley for 2-days from June 16

JAMMU, June 13: Chief Justice of India, Justice Altamas Kabir is arriving in Srinagar for two-day visit from June 16. This would be Justice Kabir’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after becoming the Chief Justice of the country in September 2012. He, however, has paid several visits to Jammu and Srinagar as senior most Judge of the Supreme Court.
According to the itinerary of his visit, Chief Justice of India will arrive at Srinagar airport at 1 pm on June 16 and at around 2 pm he will inaugurate Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Academy’s complex at Mobinabad, Srinagar at around 2 pm and thereafter address the Judges of the State High Court, Judicial Officers, lawyers and other dignitaries.
Later, in the day he will attend a seminar the topic— “Rights of Women and Children—a Constitutional Perspective” being organized by the Judicial Academy. First Lady of the State, Usha Vohra will chair the seminar.
During the seminar, Justice Altamas Kabir along with Supreme Court Judge, Justice T S Thakur, Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Justice M M Kumar and other legal luminaries will deliver lecture on the topic to enlighten the participants about the rights of woman and children guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
On June 17, Chief Justice of India will visit Kashmir University where he will deliver lecture on the topic—-“Legal Education—Challenges and Opportunities” in a function organized by the Department of Law of the Varsity.
Justice T S Thakur will share his experiences as a lawyer and Judge of the Supreme Court with the law students while as Chief Justice of State High Court, Justice M M Kumar will speak on the topic “Opportunities in legal profession”.
Later, Justice Altamas Kabir will also inaugurate a Legal Service Clinic in the Law Department of the Kashmir University.
This would be Justice Altamas Kabir’s first visit to J&K after becoming Chief Justice of India. Prior to becoming Chief Justice of India, he visited the State in February 2012 when he inaugurated the front office and legal aid clinic in the High Court Complex at Janipur.
