LAHDC Leh celebrates Buddha Purnima

LEH/JAMMU, May 26: LAHDC Leh celebrated 2565th Buddha Purnima in a symbolic manner at the Council Secretariat Leh in the presence of the Chairman, Advocate Tashi Gyalson and others, here today.

Dy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillor for Agriculture, Stanzin Chosphel and officials of the Council Secretariat Leh were also present on the occasion.
In his message, CEC Gyalson greeted all the people of Ladakh on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima and requested them to celebrate this year’s Buddha Purnima at their respective homes. He stated that the current Covid pandemic situation is the perfect time to revisit Buddha’s teachings as it can be the guiding light for a peaceful and sustainable world. He added that Buddha’s method of introspection and awakening is what we need to show us the path in these troubling times.
Later LAHDC Leh and District Administration Leh, led by CEC Tashi Gyalson and DC Shrikant Suse distributed refreshments to the Covid affected patients and Para-medical staff deployed at SNM Hospital Leh, dedicated Covid hospitals of Mahabodhi and Ladakh Heart Foundation, and the Covid Care Centre at Dharma Center, Choglamsar. All the officials reviewed current situations and assured all assistance in providing necessary requirements.
Appreciating the initiative of Blood Donors Association Leh, CEC Gyalson voluntarily donated blood at the Blood Bank, SNM Hospital Leh, and further encouraged every eligible volunteer of Leh to take part in the noble cause.
Meanwhile, All Jammu Kashmir Buddha Mission Society Jammu celebrated Buddha Purnima, under the presidentship of K K Digra, its President.
In order to follow Covid SOP, only prominent members and office bearers of the society participated in the homely function, during which Pooja, Vandana and Buddha Dhama were performed,
Speaking on the occasion, K K Digra said Buddha Purnima is a big day in the Buddhist culture and way of life, because on this day most important three events took place; birth of Goutam Buddha, his attaining enlightenment and his death.
Throwing more light on teachings of Budha, the speaker said that Goutam Buddha was the founder of spiritual science to know within of human body. “According to Buddha, there is suffering in the world and cause is ignorance and worldly desires. So he gave us the eight principles for peace of mind, which include; Right Views, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Conduct, Right Livlihood, Right Efforts, Right Mindfulness and Right Meditation,” he added.
“This is a Dharma based on equality and that is why Baba Sahib Dr B R Amdedkar followed Buddhism. It is very close to Hinduism. This religion gives equality to all human beings. Baba sahib turned down the request of many other religions to adopt them,” said Mr Digra and reminded that according to Hindu mythology, Buddha was the incarnation of Bhagwan Vishnu.
