397 cases settled in Mega Lok Adalats

JAMMU, May 31: A total of 397 cases were settled in the Mega Lok Adalats held in different parts of the State from May 21 to May 31.
In the Mega Lok Adalat held in the District Court Complex, Janipur under the chairmanship of Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal, Chairman District Legal Services Authority and Principal District and Sessions Judge, four benches were constituted.
The first bench comprising of K S Parihar, Ist Additional District and Sessions Judge, Jammu and S C Gupta, 2nd Additional District Judge and second bench comprising of Sanjeev Gupta, 3rd Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu and R N Wattal, Additional District Judge, Jammu jointly took up 83 MACT and 326 Bank Court cases.
A total of 72 cases were settled by these two benches which includes 22 MACT cases and an amount of Rs 65.20 lakh was awarded as compensation. In 50 bank cases, an amount of Rs 89,48,068 lakh was recovered from defaulters.
The third and fourth benches comprising Abdul Nassir, City Judge, Renu Dogra, 2nd Additional Munsiff Jammu, V S Bhou and Anjum Ara, Munsiff Jammu jointly took up 32 petty criminal cases of the Courts of City, Judge, Sub-Judge, Forest Magistrate and Municipal Magistrate. Out of these cases, 9 were settled.
The Mega Lok Adalats were also held at Munsiff Courts, Akhnoor and Bishnah where 18 and 6 cases respectively were settled amicably.
At Udhampur, the Mega Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Brij Mohan Gupta, then Principal District and Sessiosn Judge Udhampur and Ashok Kumar Koul, Chairman District Legal Services Authority Udhampur.
Two benches were constituted to deal with and settle the cases referred to Mega Lok Adalat by different courts of Udhampur. The first bench comprising Ashok Kumar Koul (Pr. Dist. & Sessions Judge Udhampur) and Mohinder Kumar Sharma (Addl. Dist. & Sessions Judge Udhampur) was constituted to deal with matrimonial and MACT cases.
The second bench comprising Soba Ram Gandhi, CJM Udhampur and Amit Sharma, Munsiff JMIC Udhampur was constituted to deal with civil and criminal matters referred by all the courts of Udhampur.
In ten day long Mega Lok Adalat, total of 81 cases were taken up out of which 45 cases were settled. An amount of Rs 2, 00000 was given as compensation in MACT case.
Mega Lok Adalat was also organized at District Court Complex, Ramban under the supervision of Chairman District Legal Services Authority. It was presided over by Kusoom Pandita, Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Ramban and assisted by Munsiff Ramban, Arun Kumar Kotwal.
A total of 52 cases were taken up out of which 24 settled on the spot by way of mediation and reconciliation. An amount of Rs 95,000 was awarded as compensation in one MACT case.
In the Mega Lok Adalat held at Rajouri under the chairmanship of Z A Raza, Principal District and Sessions Judge, a total of 112 cases including 5 MACT cases were settled through mediation and reconciliation in which compensation of Rs 5.71 lakh was awarded to the victims or their legal representatives.
A total of 79 cases were amicably settled in the Mega Lok Adalat was held at Kulgam under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge, M S Parihar. Similarly, 32 cases were settled in Lok Adalat held at Kupwara under the chairmanship of Principal Sessions Judge.
