DSEK releases salary of deceased boy’s father

Srinagar, June 2: Scores of teachers today staged a silent sit-in here demanding the release of their pending salaries as well as an inquiry into the Kulgam suicide incident.
Teachers from the various area appeared in the Press Enclave and started a sit-in holding placards. The protest was held under the banner of the J&K Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and was led by President EJAC and Chairman JK Teachers Forum Mohd Rafique and Senior Vice President, Shabir Ahmad Langoo.

On the occasion, Rather briefed said that the Kulgam suicide incident is a blot on the system and that came as a shocker to the people of J&K.
He also said that the incident is a result of official apathy and highhandedness of some people holding official chairs.
Protesting teachers were holding placards bearing slogans like: “We demand impartial enquiry in Kulgam suicide incident, Release our salaries, don’t force our children to commit suicide”.
Rather also displayed an order issued by the Government with clear cut instructions to the department to release the due salary of all those teachers who have not been paid their earned salary for more than two years.
Rather also showed non-involvement certificate issued by District Level Committees (DLCs) constituted by the Government for the purpose, while also displaying clearance certificates issued by police in favour of such teachers from time to time.
“Salaries of around 149 teachers has been kept withheld on the pretext of the adverse report which is not correct,” he said.
Rather urged upon the Government to constitute a committee to hold an impartial inquiry into the Kulgam suicide incident. “Responsibility should be fixed and those found guilty should be punished under the law,” he said.
He also demanded immediate release of the salary of all the teachers who have not been paid their due salary along with the issuance of transition orders in favour of left out teachers.
Meanwhile, the Government today released salary of a teacher whose son committed suicide on May 28. The officials said that Rs 33 crores have been released to Chief Education Officers of Kashmir for payment of withheld salary of 630 teachers.
