This has reference to the much awaited Railway section linking Kashmir valley with rest of the country. The 18 Km long section between Banihal in Jammu province and Qazigund in Kashmir province will provide an all-weather surface link to the valley. Of course, it was a challenging task which has been successfully completed. All praise and kudos to the Indian Railways and construction agency for giving a wonderful gift to the people of J&K State in particular and the country in general.
‘DD Kashir’ showed a special report on the 11 Km long tunnel which is the Asia’s first long Railway Tunnel named as ‘Pir Panjal Tunnel’ in its News programme last week. The authorities must take proper care so far as historical names are concerned and there should be no distortion of historical names and places under any circumstances. The actual historical name as per official records is ‘Peer Panchal’. The Railway authorities should immediately rectify the error and take utmost caution in future also.
