JAMMU, June 17: For repatriation of the Police contingent, which is deployed on the campus for the last four years, Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof M P S Ishar today discussed the matter with the Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo.
In the meeting, Prof Ishar urged the Minister for early withdrawal of police personnel and vacation of the University Transit House from occupation of the cops. He explained that in view of the forthcoming  All India Congress, which is being hosted by the JU, the University Transit House needs to be vacated for facilitating stay of the guests.
The VC also informed the Minister that there was no provision for the payment  of deployed police personnel in the University estimate.
The Minister assured the Vice-Chancellor that appropriate decision would  be taken  at the earliest in this regard. He informed that a meeting of the Home Department was being convened very soon to resolve the issue.
Later, the Minister also paid a visit to the Transit House. He was accompanied by Additional District Development Commissioner Rehana Batool, DIG Jammu Shakeel Beig, SP South Rajeshwar Singh and senior officers of the University.
Pertinent to mention that total 55 personnel from Jammu Kashmir Police are presently deployed on the JU campus. The  Police contingent was deployed on the request of then JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Varun Sawhni for `maintaining  law and order’ on the campus notwithstanding a stiff opposition by the students and scholars.
